Sequestration

In equity, the act of seizing property belonging to another andholding it until profits have paid the demand for which the property was taken. In law, the practice of keeping jury members together and guarded from impropercontact with people who are not members of the jury throughout the trial andjury deliberations. Juries are sequestered at the discretion of the trial judgewhen he or she feels sequestration would serve the interests of justice.Sequestration of witnesses is frequently ordered by the court at the request ofone of the parties to insure that incourt testimony of each witness will not becolored by what another witness said.
