Leading question
A question posed by a trial lawyer that is sometimes improperbecause it suggests to the witness the answer he or she is to deliver, or ineffect prompts answers in disregard of actual memory. For example: In directexamination during the trial, the witness is asked "Isn't it true that you sawRich standing outside the store waiting for a friend when the robberyoccurred?" That question will be objected to as a leading question since itsuggests to the witness how he should explain or recall the event, instead ofsimply inquiring how the event actually took place. However, leading questionsare proper as part of cross-examination since the object of such examination isto test the credibility of the statement made during direct examination.
