Driving while intoxicated (D.W.I.)
The criminal offense of operating a motorvehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. State law controls boththe definition of "operating," such as whether it includes the actual drivingof the car or merely sitting in the car, and the level of intoxication neededin order to be found in violation of the law.
