Divestiture
Loss or surrender of a right or title or interest, a remedy bywhich the court orders the offending party to rid itself of assets before theparty would normally have done so. Divestiture, like restitution, has thepurpose of depriving a defendant of the gains of wrongful conduct. It is aremedy sometimes used in the enforcement of the antitrust laws.
